Producer Story:
Perched in the lush hills of Nyamasheke District in
Rwanda’s Western Province, the Shangi Washing Station is home
to some of the country’s most vibrant coffees. Coffee
processed by Youth Coffee Club, comes from farms at elevations
between 1,500 and 2,100 meters above sea level, where cool breezes
from nearby Lake Kivu and volcanic sandy-clay soils create the
perfect microclimate for specialty coffee.
Its Red Bourbon coffee is crafted using the Natural process, in
which ripe cherries are handpicked, carefully sorted, and sun-dried
on raised African beds. This slow drying, often lasting up to four
weeks, allows the beans to absorb the sugars and fruit notes from
the cherry pulp, resulting in a cup that is bold, juicy, and
intensely aromatic. The result is a vibrant flavor profile with
layers of strawberry jam, dark chocolate, and juicy mango—a
sensory journey that reflects both the terroir of Nyamasheke and
the skill of the washing station team.
Founded to empower young coffee professionals, Youth Coffee Club
blends innovation with tradition, bringing fresh energy to
Rwanda’s coffee sector while ensuring that each lot showcases
the distinct beauty of its origin.
